Full-Time Main Class Teacher Danby Yorkshire
Main Class Teacher Danby Yorkshire
Vacancy Details: Main Class Teacher Danby Yorkshire
This is an exciting opportunity for a fully qualified primary teacher looking to work in a creative educational setting. The School are a tiny (10 on roll in the main class), independent, Waldorf school in a beautiful dale in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors. They are completely renewing our curriculum at the moment to offer a 21st century Waldorf education and this is a chance to be part of that journey. Their current goal is to offer a creative, broad, challenging new curriculum to their pupils which does not compromise the alternative education they offer but is fully compliant with the Independent School Standards. Theirs is a gentle, unhurried education. They do not teach reading formally until age 6 and they do not do SATs.
The school is run by a charity, the Eskdale Community Trust for Education, whose aim is to offer affordable Waldorf education in their very rural region. Thus their teacher salaries are low. The salary for this post is £21,000 per annum, although they might consider more for a very qualified and experienced candidate who would be a good fit for their school. Experience in a village school with mixed-age teaching groups would be an advantage, but is not essential. More important to us is to find someone with energy and ideas who is ready to undertake their curriculum journey with us. They will also offer free places to primary aged children of the successful candidate.
The current vacancy is for a full-time main class teacher to teach a small mixed-age class (6-11 years) with support from another part-time teacher and a small team of volunteer teachers who teach individual subjects such as dance, craft, art and maths. Thus there is an opportunity for the class to be split for some lessons.
They are open to applications from teachers currently working in the state sector and would offer opportunities for further study to for a diploma or masters in Waldorf education to the right candidate.
Their school is based in Botton Village, a community for adults with learning disabilities. They work closely with the Esk Valley Camphill Community which supports these adults and some of our pupils are the children of parents working in that Community. This setting adds another dimension to their work and to the experience of their children.
If you think this sounds as if it might be for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch. The School would love to hear from you!
