Job Description

SEN LSA Bury St Edmunds Suffolk

Vacancy Details: SEN LSA Bury St Edmunds Suffolk

LSA Complex moderate learning difficulties

The Position:

A position has become available for a full time LSA to work in a Special Educational Needs school for 9–18-year-olds who have individual needs associated with complex moderate learning difficulties.

Previous experience of working with children who have Complex moderate learning difficulties is essential, however additional training will be provided for suitable candidates.

Children and young people who have an EHCP (Educational, Health, Care plan) for complex moderate learning difficulties have conditions that co-exist, with characteristics that overlap and combine making the individual needs very specific and so their learning needs to be tailored to their needs. The children and young people may experience difficulties with SLCN (Speech, Language and Communication needs), mobility, sensory impairment, cognitive, and behavioural needs.

As a dedicated LSA for complex moderate learning difficulties students you will need to be confident and comfortable in aiding students that need specific support and strategies to provide the opportunities for the children and young people to engage in the learning activities.

As the successfully appointed LSA you will be working closely with the class teacher to provide a safe and caring learning environment where the learners are given the opportunity to progress in all areas. You will be providing invaluable 1:1 support to children within the classroom setting. You may also be required to support the child/ren outside of the school in an alternative educational setting offering vocational studies, so a full driving licence is essential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support learners with their individual needs
  • Manage behaviours and expectations.
  • Individual and small group support
  • Liaising with class teachers and providing your feedback and observations about progress made towards expected outcomes for the specific learner.
  • Administrative duties

The position is to start ASAP and work until the end of this academic year. The working hours are 8:45am to 5pm.

The successful applicant with need to have eligibility to work in the UK and a valid Enhanced DBS for the child workforce.
